KANAL42

PURE CASSETTE INPUT SATURATION

KANAL42 captures the sound and feel of pushing a vintage cassette multitrack input beyond its clean range — from subtle saturation and gritty crunch to dense, broken-up distortion and fuzz-like tones.

Designed for guitars, bass, drums, synths and more, KANAL42 adds density, character and a different kind of response to your signal.

KANAL42 isn’t just about adding distortion.

DRIVE doesn’t simply turn up distortion. As you push it, compression and punch change with it — especially on drums, where transients start to hit differently and the body of the sound gets pushed forward.

Keep going and the character changes again: from saturation to crunch, until the sound starts to break apart.

The interesting part is finding the point where your signal starts to change — before it’s distorted, but no longer clean.

“It was so good that I wanted to use it myself, so I immediately wrote an article about it. The biggest feature is the wide variety of sound-shaping possibilities. Despite its simple operation, you can do quite a lot with this one plugin. Personally, I really like this kind of simple plugin that can do all sorts of things depending on how you use it.”

A DI guitar signal can sound clean and precise — but it can also feel a little flat and disconnected.

Place KANAL42 at the end of the chain and the character changes. The guitar becomes more immediate, more grippy, and starts to develop a sense of body. That dry DI feeling starts to disappear.

Push the DRIVE further and play dynamically, and KANAL42 starts to react to your playing. Hit it harder and the signal suddenly breaks up — just like the abrupt overload you get from pushing a cassette input.

No amp. No speaker. Just the final push.
